The collection was willed by Apperson to the Forest Preserve Association of New York State in 1963. The collection was re-organized by Philip W. Ham, David Newhouse, Arthur Newkirk, and William White.In 1981, the collection was donated to the Adirondack Research Center of Schaffer Library of Union College. A formal letter of gift, with the assigning of all rights, to the Adirondack Research Center of Schaffer Library of Union College on May 10, 1983 was completed.
