Provenance
Paul Schaefer began organizing his papers into subject file binders in the just before his death. His papers were willed to the Adirondack Research Library of the Association for the Protection of the Adirondacks after his death in 1996. Between 1996 and 2011 many volunteers, briefly including Schaefer's grandson, attempted to continue Schaefer's subject file organization resulting in the current Subject Files series. The remainder of the collection lost all original order during multiple moves and at least one floor. Union College received the collection on permanent loan from Protect the Adirondacks! (the then contemporary name of the Association for the Protection of the Adirondacks) on April 21. 2011.
